How to add TikTok and Reels videos to Shopify product pages (and make them shoppable)

The most convincing product photo is not a photo. It is a 20-second clip of a real person opening the box, trying the thing on, and reacting. Your customers are already making those clips on TikTok and Instagram. The problem is that they live there, not on your product page, where the "Add to cart" button is.

This guide covers the ways to put short video on a Shopify product page, why the obvious embed method hurts your store, and how to make the video itself shoppable.

Why not just paste the TikTok embed code?

TikTok, Instagram and YouTube all offer an embed snippet. Paste it into a product description and the video appears. Three problems follow:

  1. Speed. A single TikTok embed loads about 1 MB of scripts and an iframe before the shopper has scrolled to it. Three embeds and your mobile PageSpeed score drops by 20–30 points.
  2. Leaving the page. Every embed carries the platform's logo, profile link and "watch more" prompts. You are paying for traffic and sending it to TikTok.
  3. No purchase path. The video ends, the shopper is on TikTok, and your cart is two tabs away.

Embeds are made for blogs, not for stores.

What a product-page video needs

  • Load on tap, not on page load. A thumbnail with a play button, the player only when someone wants it.
  • Stay on the page. Your product, your buttons, no platform navigation.
  • A purchase action inside the video. "Add to cart" while the video is playing, not after leaving it.
  • Proof, not decoration. Show that other people bought after watching, if you can measure it.
  • Any theme, no code. Paste a link, tag the product, done.

Option 1: Shopify's native video block

Shopify lets you upload MP4 files to product media. It is fast and it stays on the page. The limits: you have to download and re-upload every clip, there is no link back to the creator, no shoppable overlay, and a product with six videos becomes a wall of media above the fold.

Good for one hero video per product that you own. Not practical for a stream of customer clips.

Option 2: A shoppable video app

We built Virally for stores that already have customer videos on TikTok, Reels or Shorts and want them to sell.

How it works:

  1. Paste a TikTok, Instagram Reels or YouTube Shorts link into the app and tag the product (or several).
  2. Virally shows a video wall on the product page, thumbnails first, each video loading from the platform's CDN only when tapped. Page speed stays where it was.
  3. Inside the player there is an Add to cart button, so the shopper buys without leaving the video. After adding, a small "goes well with" row suggests up to three related products.
  4. With order attribution on, each video can show "🔥 12 bought from this video", computed from real orders, and the dashboard shows revenue per video so you know which clips sell.
  5. Optional watch-and-unlock: after N seconds of watching, a discount code appears in the player.

The free plan covers 3 videos and 2,000 views per month with no card. Starter is 12.99 USD per month for 20 videos, Growth 29.99 USD for unlimited. Flat pricing, no per-view overage. Setup notes are in the Virally documentation.

Getting customer videos in the first place

  • Ask in the post-purchase email: "Film your unboxing, tag us, we feature the best ones on the product page." Being featured on the store is a real incentive for small creators.
  • Search your brand name and product names on TikTok weekly. Most merchants find clips they did not know existed.
  • Always ask permission before featuring a creator's clip, and link their profile. Virally keeps the creator handle on the thumbnail.
  • Start with three videos on your three best-selling products. Measure for two weeks before adding more.

Frequently asked questions

Does it host the videos? No. Videos play from TikTok's, Instagram's or YouTube's own CDN, which is why there is no hosting cost and why they load only when tapped.

Will it work with my theme? Yes. Virally is a theme app extension: you paste the link, tag the product and enable the block in the theme editor. No theme code is edited, and uninstalling removes everything.

Can I use my own videos, not just customer clips? Yes. Any public TikTok, Reels or Shorts link works, including your brand's own account.

Does the "bought from this video" number need special permissions? It uses Shopify's order data with the standard read_orders scope, approved by Shopify for this purpose. Only the order count and value are used, never customer names or addresses.
